Meghan Markle and Prince Harry ITV Oprah chat sees Ofcom complaints skyrocket past 6k
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Oprah Winfrey tell-all has been hit with hundreds more complaints to independent TV watchdog Ofcom after it aired on ITV.
Once again more and more viewers lodged official complaints about ITV’s decision to air the Duke and Duchess’ tell-all, making it the most complained about show in the UK between Tuesday 6 April and Monday 19 April 2021, as another 257 people complained to Ofcom.
In total 6,203 have now complained about the two-hour special which aired on ITV last month.
During the interview, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made several bombshell claims against the Royal Family.
During the chat Meghan claimed to Oprah that in a conversation with Prince Harry that she wasn’t a part of, an unnamed member of the Royal Family raised concerns about the colour Archie’s skin would be.
Both she and Prince Harry refused to give any more context on the claims.
It is not know what the question was or who said it.
Speaking off camera, Harry later told Oprah that the comment was not made by either The Duke of Edinburgh or The Queen.
Also during the chat Meghan hinted that her son Archie was not made a Prince at birth due to his skin colour.
As per convention, only the grandchildren of the monarch are given the birth right to become a Prince.
When Prince Charles is on the throne, Archie would have the right to become a Prince.
Her Majesty changed the rules for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s children as Prince George is third in line to the throne.
Meghan also made the same claims in relation to her son not receiving state funded security.
However, neither Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie have state-funded security.
The women, who are the daughter’s of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, have been without taxpayer-funded security since 2011.
It has been claimed that until then the cost for the princesses having 24-hour police protection was £500,000 per year to the taxpayer.
Prince Harry also claimed that his brother Prince William and his father Prince Charles “feel trapped” by the monarchy.
Meanwhile, Meghan alleged to Oprah that William’s wife the Duchess of Cambridge made her cry during planning for her wedding.
