Meghan and Harry’s daughter Lilibet finally added to royals’ line of succession

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s daughter has finally been added to the line of succession on the official royal family website – seven weeks after she was born.

Lilibet arrived on June 4 in California and doesn’t have a royal title, but is eighth in line to the throne.

Until today, the Royal Family’s official website, which includes a page on the line of succession, had not been updated to reflect her birth.

It had prompted royal fans to ask why this was the case – but the page has now been updated.

When Lilibet’s older brother Archie was born in 2019, the site was changed to add him to the line of succession after only 15 days.

And when cousin Prince Louis arrived in 2018, the website was updated 12 days after his birth.

A spokesman for Buckingham Palace previously said the Royal Family website is “updated periodically”.

Lilibet’s new place in the line of succession means Prince Andrew moves down to ninth.

Above her in the list is Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Prince Harry and brother Archie.

Harry and Meghan named their new daughter after the Queen’s childhood nickname – but said she will be known as Lili.

In a statement, they said: “Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet.

“Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honour her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.”

The Duke of Edinburgh, who died in April, used the name Lilibet as a pet name for the monarch, although it was originally given to her by her grandfather, King George V, because of the way she pronounced her own name.

But there have been varying reports as to whether the couple asked for permission from the Queen to use her family nickname.

And it could be something that Prince Harry addresses in his memoir, which he is releasing late next year.

It will cover his lifetime in the public eye, including his time in the military, marriage and fatherhood.

The Royal Family have “very real fears that the book deal could destabilise the monarchy by undermining Charles’ reputation and disrupting the transition which is slowly preparing the country for the succession”, the Mail on Sunday reported.

A source claims there was “anger and disappointment” among courtiers that the Queen faces anxiety over the memoir just months after the death of her husband Prince Philip.
