This Easy Homemade Mixture Is The Only Tub And Shower Cleaner You’ll Ever Need
I love my bathroom. Now that I think about it, it might actually be one of my favorite places in the house.
It’s the room I spend the most time in every morning when getting ready to start my day, and at the end of the day, it’s where I head to for a bath to relax and gather my thoughts.
This is why it is really important to me that the bathroom is always clean and organized. Having a clean bathroom is a great feeling, so I’ve made it a habit to wipe down the sink and other areas multiple times a week. Then once a week, I’ll take the time to properly wash these surfaces, including the shower, tub and toilet, with cleaners and disinfectants.
As we’re all aware, there are a lot of harmful germs that lurk in the bathroom, like the staphylococcus aureus “staph” bacteria, which includes the antibiotic resistant MRSA strain. The last thing anyone would want is to get infected by these nasty pathogens, so it’s crucial to keep the bathroom, especially the shower area, spic and span.
While store-bought cleaning products will get the job done, they’re not necessarily the best for your skin or respiratory system. The chemicals in certain cleaners have terrible long-term effects on your health. In fact, a recent study published in the American Thoracic Society’s American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine says there is a strong correlation between deteriorating lung function and cleaning products. Apparently, those who regularly used cleaning products had lungs comparable to someone who smoked 20 cigarettes a day for decades.
After reading about this, I set out to find an alternative to the harsh products I’ve been using to clean my bathroom. It took a lot of digging around, but it looks like there is one do-it-yourself solution that many people have been swearing by.
I recently gave it a try, and I can definitely see why it is so popular. Not only is it easy to make, it works wonders when it comes to removing soap stains and scum from the tub and shower tiles.
The best part? You probably have everything you need to make this concoction in your pantry.
Personally, I find the shower and tub are the hardest spots to clean. They use up a lot of product and sometimes no matter how hard you scrub, they never seem to look as good as they did when they were new.
Oftentimes, this happens because of the type of water you have. Hard water combined with soap, shampoos, and body washes can create a layer of tough scum that can seem impossible to remove.
Instead of wasting your hard-earned money on chemical-laden cleaning products or expensive magic erasers, give this homemade shower cleaner a try. Trust me, you’ll notice the difference.
– 1.5 cups dishwashing liquid (blue Dawn is recommended)
– 1.5 cups white vinegar
– 1 spray bottle
1. Heat the vinegar in the microwave until hot, then pour it into the spray bottle.
2. Add the dishwashing liquid to the bottle, put the lid on, and gently shake it until the vinegar and soap are well mixed.
3. Spray a generous amount of the mixture on your shower, tub, toilet or sink, and let it sit for 30 minutes.
4. Scrub if needed, otherwise just rinse the surface well with water.
Due to the vinegar, the strong smell of this solution can bother some people, so remember to open up the windows or cover your face if you can’t handle it.
How well does it work?
I forgot to take pictures of what my bathroom looked like before I tried this cleaner, but the folks at One Good Thing did, and the results are incredible!
